Local businesswoman Kathryn Thomas of Cobalt Accountancy has been short-listed for the National JCI Creative Young Entrepreneur Award 2009.
JCI (Junior Chamber International) is the world’s largest network of young leaders and entrepreneurs. The annual International Awards recognize young entrepreneurs using creativity to create positive change in their business operations.
Kathryn has been nominated for this award because at 30 she has already proved her entrepreneurial spirit by starting two businesses - Alpha Health Services Ltd an Occupational Health Company based in Aberdeen in 2005, and Cobalt Accountancy in 2008.
“Edinburgh is a hot bed of young and dynamic talent and I am delighted and honored to be among the final 6 national candidates” said Kathryn.
Shaf Rasul from Dragons Den is the guest speaker and Kathryn aims to use the opportunity to meet and talk with him about future plans for Cobalt and a new business concept she is preparing to launch.
Suzanne Shinnie Director of Techs in the City added “Kathryn has been an active participant in the JCI Enterprise Program and has generously shared her time and expertise throughout the year. This selection will significantly raise her profile in the local and national business community and provide her with recognition of her skills’.
Colleagues and clients agree that Kathryn has earned her place in the shortlist, Cobalt is not just another accountancy practice, it offers a much more complete service, with unique products such as Do it Yourself tax returns tool Kits and finance director services for SME's.
Kathryn recognises that although most accountants offer advisory services there are not many who will actually give advice. There are many consultants and advisors in the market place, but few who have the skills, knowledge, experience and qualifications to truly offer advice and support in all matters financial and tax related. Her unique approach and fresh thinking helps business owners focus on goals and realise their full potential.
The winner of the National Awards will be invited to the International Award Ceremony in Tunsia at the JCI World Conference in November 2009.
