Local businesswoman Kathryn Thomas of Cobalt Accountancy has been short-listed for the National JCI Creative Young Entrepreneur Award 2009.

JCI (Junior Chamber International) is the world’s largest network of young leaders and entrepreneurs.The annual International Awards recognize young entrepreneurs using creativity to create positive change in their business operations.

Kathryn has been nominated for this award because at 30 she has already proved her entrepreneurial spirit by starting two businesses - Alpha Health Services Ltd an Occupational Health Company based in Aberdeen in 2005, and Cobalt Accountancy in 2008.

Shaf Rasul from Dragons Den is the guest speaker and Kathryn aims to use the opportunity to meet and talk with him about future plans for Cobalt and a new business concept she is preparing to launch.

Kathryn Thomas is a qualified Chartered Accountant with over ten years of industry experience in a number of accountancy practices in both Aberdeen and Edinburgh. Her particular interest in SME business growth and development is reflected in her growing profile within Scotland´s small business community.

As co-owner and Finance Director of Alpha Health Services Ltd, formed in 2005, Kathryn´s role was pivotal in doubling turnover and profitability between years one and two.

Further broadening her skills, in 2005 Kathryn became client manager to a portfolio of owner-run businesses ranging in size from 5,000 to 8.8 million turnover.

Aside from her professional interests as a member of ICAS, Kathryn maintains active links within the small business and charity sectors as well as her active role with the Big Project's board, a local charity working with young people.
