Building on Collective’s strength in 3D design, the site is set within the potions room from the game and uses in-game graphics and experiences to bring EA's world of Harry Potter to life.
The online campaign also features a downloadable Clearspring widget offering a number of playable games, which a user can embed within their favourite social space.
The widget contains three Quidditch practice games:
• Dodge – Control Harry Potter on his broom as he attempts to dodge Bludgers in a game of Quidditch. The longer Harry is able to stay on his broom, the higher the score.
• Catch – Catch the Golden Snitch! Users must attempt to catch a Snitch as it flies manically around the screen. The quicker the Snitch is caught, the higher the score.
• Shoot – Shoot five Quaffles through three hoops, each with a different difficulty and score.
After playing each game, fans can unlock a downloadable screensaver, with the total score from the three games determining their final score. Players will also be given one of seven ‘badges of honour’ to post on their social network or their own site.
The next phase of the site includes a 3D ‘potion mixing’ experience that allows users try out potions to see their effects. From the ‘Felix Felicis’ love potion to the infamous ‘Shrinking Solution’ – each potion will transform the user’s site experience until it wears off.
Al Taylor, creative director of Collective, comments: “We are proud of the online destination that we’ve delivered to EA. As part of our research we ran a workshop with a classroom of 12-year-olds to ask them what they would like to see on the new Harry Potter website, and so we’re confident that the widget and site will be well received by the target audience and be successful at building awareness around the game.”
The EA development builds on Collective’s experience in devising highly successful widgets for SEGA and Snickers.
