Specializing in oil, acrylic, watercolor, ink, graphite, digital, and sculpture, South Florida artists Jon Hunt and Jim Radford debut their “Recent Works” exhibition, Tuesday, July 28, in the Mark K. Wheeler Gallery at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, 1799 SE 17 Street, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Hunt and Radford are both trained in traditional painting and drawing techniques yet their individual visions have propelled them beyond their classical roots to create work that is unique and personal.

This exhibition runs through August 31 and is open to the public Monday-Friday 8am-10pm, Saturday 9am-5pm, Sundays and holidays closed. For more information, call 954.308.2109.

The two artists became fast friends while teaching at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. Hunt continues his instructions in animation, storyboarding, anatomy, and graphics, while Radford took a medical retirement in 2006 after 28 years of teaching at the college.

“I have never had the inclination to paint or sculpt images to match interior decors or colors,” says Antioch University master’s degree graduate Radford, “but I have remained true to my own feeling on realism in art. I have always had and will ever have the greatest respect for God’s design of the human form and all its idiosyncrasies and I strive to render it in graphite, paint or clay whenever I can.”

In contrast to Radford’s more traditional style, which includes magazines, TV commercials, and portraitures, Hunt concentrates more on digital art for clients such as Llewellyn Publications, Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, Four Wins Press, Houghton Mifflin, Analog and Asimov’s Science Fiction, Image comics, and Dragon Magazine.

“I work in both traditional and digital media and my work has been shown in galleries and used on book jackets, collectible card games, role playing manuals, and magazines,” says Hunt, who holds a master’s degree from Miami International University of Art & Design. “I have also authored and/or illustrated 11 picture books for children.”
