Wainhouse Research has published a new market study: Enterprise Social Networking 2009 Vol. 2 - Outward-Facing ESN Platforms that explores how enterprises are using social networks to drive their business and how this, in turn, is driving the Enterprise Social Networking market. The Outward-Facing report is the second study by Senior Analyst Will Zachmann who completed an Inward-Facing report several months ago. The new study explores the market segment that caters to an open ended population of users such as customers, prospects, readers, fans and viewers.
Due to challenging economic times, including budget cuts during the first half of 2009, WR predicts "just" a 27% growth this year. However, the five year forecast suggests that this will be a temporary stall in the market. Contributing to the return of rapid growth will be 1) the increased deployment of these systems in Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America where currently the combined usage accounts for less than one-third of global revenues; 2) the growing convergence between outward and inward facing networks and 3) increased integration with backend enterprise systems.
According to Will Zachmann, "Late in the forecast period a shift from the 2D Web browser page metaphor to a 3D virtual reality space will have a dramatic impact not only on ESN, but on collaboration, web based communications, and other platforms as well."
This Wainhouse Research market study includes fundamental analysis of outward-facing enterprise social networking platforms, current market sizing and five-year forecasts, and profiles of key vendors and their products. The report provides succinct, targeted assessments of major ESN platforms that are essential for user organizations deciding which product to use as well as for vendors or investors doing their due diligence.
The Enterprise Social Networking 2009 Volume 2 is the second in a series of two volumes. Volume I, released earlier this year, examines inward-facing ESN platforms built to target a known set of individuals, typically employees.
