The Highlands Center for Natural History is pleased to announce its first annual fundraising event, Wander The Wild, to be held at the Juniper Well Ranch on Sunday, September 20, 2009 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. This wonderful outdoor event will feature a nature-inspired dinner created by chef, Molly Beverly, paired with good wine. Plans include special menu information from Chef Beverly on the fascinating sources and uses of native ingredients in her singularly unique yet delicious fare.
Another major highlight of the event will be a live auction of “Wild and Wonderful” Outdoor-Related Adventures and Inspiringly Creative Educational Packages. The Highlands Center already has a wonderful 7-day High Sierra Vacation Package where the winning bidders will stay in a beautiful, privately owned mountain home in the Inyo National Forest, near hiking, fishing and Yosemite. In addition, a Mexico Vacation and Photography Adventure are also on stage for this high-powered live auction. For attendees who like variety, HCNH’s Wander the Wild event is also planning a Silent Auction of many other nature-related items. HCNH is still soliciting auction item donations for this important event, and would welcome contributions.
The Highlands Center is a membership supported non-profit organization created to help children and adults discover the wonders of nature and become wise caretakers of the land through outdoor-science education on the Central Arizona Highlands. “Wander The Wild will be our signature annual fundraising event,” stated Dave Irvine, Executive Director of the Center. “We look forward to not only raising the funds the Highlands Center needs for ongoing education and growth, but to making this particular event a most memorable one for the generous supporters and attendees.”
Tickets to Wander the Wild are $75 and can be purchased by calling the Center. Corporate Sponsorship opportunities are still available and include, in part, tickets to the event.
About The Highlands Center for Natural History
Recently honored as the winner of Channel Eight’s, Be More Awards™ FOR EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH for its Schoolyard Habitat program, The Highlands Center offers extensive family programs, after-school programs, and week-long summer day camps. They also provide field studies, lectures, workshops, and other activities to broaden the adult community’s understanding of natural history in the Central Arizona Highlands.
The Highlands Center for Natural History is an environmental education organization, which features quality outdoor science education, reaching over 10,000 children and adults each year.
The Central Arizona Highlands, a unique biological and geological transition zone, lies between the lush Sonoran Desert and the vast Colorado plateau of Arizona. The Lynx Creek site is an 80-acre microcosm of this special region. As HCNH’s outdoor classroom, it is integrated into learning programs for all ages. The constructed campus area on site showcases practical green building strategies, fire-wise living, water conservation, and environmental landscaping/site revegetation.
Originally called the Community Nature Center that hosted programs using a 20-acre natural site on school grounds, the Highlands Center for Natural History has served the residents of Central Arizona for nearly three decades. When the Highlands Center was incorporated in 1996, it took over the duties and financial responsibilities of the original organization. Since that time the Center has seen steady growth in community support – in donations, members, and volunteers.
