Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada, 07/04/2009 - The organizers of the this Saturday's British Heritage Festival have donated space for the BC Cancer Foundation. A host of (mostly British) antiques appraisers will reunite after last December's "Christmas of Hope" raised over $7000.

Included in this Saturday's British Heritage Festival at Beban Park will be a host of (mostly-British) antiques appraisers - many of whom you will recognized from the Canadian Antiques Roadshow. While the British Heritage Festival's website is keeping "mum" on the complete list of celebrity appraisers, they have confirmed that Tony Duke and Colin Owen Ritchie (both CAR experts) will be on-hand. Other CAR experts who have participated in fund-raising appraisal events for the BC Cancer Foundation include Richard Rosewell and Luis Poretta.
This is an excellent opportunity to have those few small items that you've been wondering about appraised and described to you by expert appraisers. Professional appraisal services are considerably more expensive than the price you pay at charitable events like this one. "The appraisers volunteer their time at these events because it's a 'win-win-win' situation," explains Elizabeth Campbell Duke. "The appraisers get promotion, the chance to see a lot of interesting pieces, and discuss the items with each other. It's fun professional development. The owners of the antiques have a chance to have some of their items described and appraised professionally for a low price, and to discuss their appraisal needs with a professional appraiser in an informal setting. And most importantly for the community, the BC Cancer Foundation receives money to continue its programmes and services. That benefits us all, because I doubt you could find anyone who hasn't been affected by cancer themselves or with someone they care about."
The British Heritage Festival is not limited to antique appraisals. The day is packed with all things British including a classic car show, vendors, music, humour shows... and an Arthurian area for kids. The British Heritage Festival runs this Saturday, July 11, from 10 am to 4 pm in the Centennial Building of Beban Park. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children, $15 for families, and $3 for OAP. Cost of appraisals is $10 for the first item, and $5 for each subsequent item.
