The Tarheel Golf Foundation’s, Tarheel Junior Golf Tour has released its 2009-2010 North Carolina Junior Golf Schedule. The initial event of the 2009-2010 year, which runs September-May, is the Tarheel State Junior Open. This major junior golf event is scheduled for October 26-27 at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's A. E. Finley Golf Course.
The Tarheel Junior Golf Tour (tarheelgolf.org) is operated by the Tarheel Golf Foundation and exists to provide junior golf tournaments for boys and girls of middle and high school ages in and around central North Carolina. Events that meet qualifying criteria are ranked by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard, Tarheel Youth Golf Association and in some instances Golfweek. The tour schedule includes over a dozen ranked golf tournaments played over major university golf courses, exceptional private golf facilities and resort golf courses. The winners of certain designated events also receive exemptions into American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) events. Additionally the Boys' and girl's upper division scoring leaders also receive an additional exemption into AJGA tournaments. The Tarheel Junior Tour has over 500 members. Members include current and aspiring high school players, major international, national and regional junior tournament champions and other young men and women that enjoy competitive golf. Members have won titles that include Junior World Championships, US Kids Golf World Championships, Future Masters and the North & South Junior Championships. Tour alumni have committed to play college golf at NCAA Division I and II programs. As an elite junior golf tour, the Tarheel Junior Tour strives to create outstanding competitive playing and learning opportunities that will help prepare junior golfers for their personal next level be that NCAA Division I golf, making the high school team, a professional tour or just advanced enjoyment of the game of golf.
