An original, unpublished manuscript by Scott Cunningham was recently discovered by one of his heirs.

Long-time friend deTraci Regula was going through Cunningham’s personal affects that she has retained since his passing. In one of the crates she discovered a manila envelope with the words “American Traditionalist Book of Shadows” in Cunningham’s writing. Inside the envelope she discovered a manuscript for a Book of Shadows that Cunningham was working on.

Cunningham is the author of over fifty books on paganism, magic, and other New Age topics, including:

• Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner
• Earth, Air, Fire & Water
• Magical Herbalism
• The Truth About Witchcraft Today.

The manuscript, which will be published in the fall of 2009, contains Cunningham’s own rituals, magical practices, spells, and recipes, along with prayers, symbols, incantations, and chants.

Upon seeing the manuscript Carl Weschcke, Chairman of Llewellyn Worldwide, said, “As I glanced at it, some memories came flooding back. Scott and I did talk about this perhaps thirty years ago. But I didn’t know that he had continued to work on it.”

The book is described as being an “American” Book of Shadows, being both American and Traditionalist. It differentiates itself from other traditions, such as Gardnerian, British, Celtic, Saxon, Strega, or other pagan tradition.

Weschcke described the book as follows: “What Scott has done is weave traditional Wiccan material with some of his own personal material his creative, inspired work. As a result, this book fills certain gaps in a traditional Book of Shadows.”
