Venice, CA, United States, 2006/04/28 - e-PlatformBeds.com, a new informational website devoted to platform beds, has released a platform bed plan, available online.
As e-PlatformBeds.com explains, platform beds are becoming more and more popular and commonly favored by young people in cities and college dormitories. Platform beds are a good way to maximize space, especially if your floor area is very limited. Most platform beds include storage boxes beneath the platform the further maximize space. Perhaps the greatest advantage of platform beds is that they are often constructed very simply. Even those with modest construction skills can manage to build a platform bed.
According to e-PlatformBeds.com, a platform bed is composed of three major parts:
1) The Headboard
2) Storage boxes
3) The Platform
The new guide outlines the necessary materials for constructing the furniture. As e-PlatformBeds.com explains, two main types of wood should be used in creating a platform bed: poplar and plywood. While poplar wood should be used for the stile, mullion, rail, cap, facing, and platform edge, plywood should be used for the panel, divider, back, top/bottom, end, toe kick face, toe kick end, cleat and platform.
e-PlatformBeds.com also recommends that builders use a circular saw with a “speed square” to ensure precision cutting. Builders will want to have a large flat table on which to rest the wood when cutting and gluing. In addition to the wood, builders will also need joining plates, woodscrews, finish nails, glue, sandpaper, latex primer and enamel. Of course, platform bed builders will also need a drill or automatic screwdriver for the screws and a hammer for the nails.
There are many types of platform bed plans, each appropriate for the person who will be sleeping on it. For example, if a person preferred a low-lying sleeping position, he or she might decide to build a platform bed without storage boxes.
