Thanks to their company’s recent significant growth, officials at Metrics Inc. have consolidated all of the company’s quality-related operations and assigned them greater autonomy and authority by promoting Thomas R. “Tom” Wilson to vice president of quality operations.
The changes reflect Metrics’ commitment to continuous quality assurance and control in the wake of last year’s $18-million expansion that doubled its facility size and dramatically grew service offerings to clients.
“By consolidating all quality operations and elevating their autonomy and authority to a vice president position, we at Metrics are sending a clear signal that quality control and assurance make up the foundation of everything we do here,” said Phil Hodges, president. “We grew quickly last year, so we are committed to ensuring that Metrics’ exacting quality operations stay focused and coordinated to deliver the excellence that our clients expect from us.”
Wilson, who joined Metrics in 2000, previously managed the company’s quality control division, which was a separate function from quality assurance. The two functions have joined together as quality operations.
“In the contract pharmaceutical development industry, there are three things your company must do: You must provide your service in a timely manner, you must provide it in a cost-effective manner and you must provide it in a high-quality manner,” Wilson said. “If you fail on any one of those three counts, you risk losing a client. At Metrics, part of our service is quality.”
Wilson holds a bachelor’s of science degree in chemistry from East Carolina University. He is a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Society for Quality.
Metrics’ expanded facility includes a new larger scale manufacturing facility with a production capability of 1 billion tablets per year; four new analytical laboratories; stability storage; a completely segregated cytotoxic and potent compound development facility; and a microbiology laboratory.
Headquartered in Greenville, N.C., Metrics Inc. (metricsinc.com) provides quality pharmaceutical formulation development, clinical trial material (Phase I, II and III) and commercial manufacturing, and analytical development/validation services to the pharmaceutical industry. The company is one of the fastest-growing contract pharmaceutical development laboratories in the United States today.
