Vince Virga, President of SGIS, a government contracting firm working within the Intelligence, Homeland Security and Defense communities, has been named as one of the winners of the 2009 40 Under 40 Award by the South Florida Business Journal. This award recognizes professionals under 40 years old for their business accomplishments, community contributions and significant career milestones. An award ceremony will be held on Thursday, June 18th, at The Design Center of America in Dania Beach, Florida.

With more than 13 years of experience in the Government Contracting and Technical Services industries, Virga joined SGIS in December 2002. Throughout his career, he has acquired extensive knowledge and achieved remarkable success. He and his business partner Hany Girgis, SGIS CEO, are responsible for the overall strategic direction of the organization and they oversee the executive team who is responsible for managing over 700 employees working out of 15 offices across the country. In addition to managing the day-to-day operations of the company, he is responsible for establishing business with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Joint Chiefs at the Pentagon, the Space and Naval Warfare (SPAWAR) Systems Center Charleston and several Intelligence Community customers. Virga continues to be involved in the business development and program management for a multitude of contracts.
Virga receives frequent recognition for his work through awards and media coverage. One of his proudest recognitions came in 2006 when he was personally presented with the 2006 Governor’s Entrepreneurship Award in the Mega Category by former Florida Governor Jeb Bush.
Recognizing his own blessings, Virga gives back to the community through a variety of charitable and civic organizations. Most recently, he adopted a United States Army infantry platoon; he and other SGIS employees provide support to deployed soldiers through letters, care packages, pen pal campaigns and monetary donations. In 2008, Virga and other SGIS employees worked closely with Habitat for Humanity, working towards the goal of ultimately eliminating poverty housing and homelessness by helping to build houses within the Fort Lauderdale, Florida area. He also sponsored a car show/ networking event in Fort Lauderdale, with all proceeds donated to cystic fibrosis charities. In times of global crisis, he endeavors to make a difference in the lives of those affected. In the wake of last year’s California Wildfires and Florida Tropical Storm, Virga launched the SGIS/ American Red Cross Donation website to support The National Disaster Relief Fund. SGIS employees, clients and vendors can use this site to donate directly to the Red Cross, and all donations will be matched (up to $5,000) by SGIS. He is an avid supporter of cancer research, namely leukemia, lymphoma and breast cancer. In 2006, Virga founded the SGIS Annual Golf Tournament in support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure to honor his mother, a breast cancer survivor.
As an active supporter of our community’s youth, Virga is a recurring guest speaker for The National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), an organization that helps young people from low-income communities build skills and unlock their entrepreneurial spirit. Most recently, he was invited to sponsor a NFTE graphic design class in Miami.
Virga is a member of a variety of industry organizations including the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA), the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) and the Intelligence and National Security Alliance (INSA).
