In a city where theater is king, it is important to reach and retain audiences, but not always easy to do so. On May 4, 2009, Illusion Theater was recognized for their outstanding marketing efforts, receiving the Ivey Ad Award for excellence in design execution and content, sponsored by Risdall Marketing Group.
The Ivey Awards, established in 2004, work to increase awareness and celebration of the vibrant Twin Cities arts community. With 72 participating theaters, The Ivey board developed the Ad Award, new this year, to stress the significance of successful marketing and advertising in keeping the arts community thriving. “Every season theaters across the cities put out seasonal brochures and few notice,” said Ivey member, Scott Mayer. “We feel that Illusion Theater and Wowza produced something really memorable.”
Illusion Theater beat out 16 other submission to take home the top prize, judged by the RMG creative group. “Our first priority is to reach diverse audiences, simultaneously sparking social change and personal growth,” said Bonnie Morris, Producing Director at Illusion Theater. “Finding unique ways to accomplish these goals are often challenging and that makes receiving this award so special.”
Wowza CEO, Jeff Rabkin is also on the Board of Directors at Illusion Theater and took a personal interest in the brochure project. “It was important to us that any marketing and advertising efforts on behalf of Illusion Theater be as creative and innovative as the shows put on there,” said Mr. Rabkin. “We were able to infuse humor into an otherwise ordinary season guide, and that made all the difference.”

The Ivey Awards were established in 2004 to celebrate Twin Cities professional theater. The Ivey Awards has two primary objectives: to increase awareness of Twin Cities professional theater and to create a celebration for all people who love Twin Cities’ theater – those within the theater community and those in the audience. The Ivey Awards are administered by an advisory committee of local theater professionals and theater-goers.
