RR Donnelley's Global Document Solutions (GDS), a leading provider of outsourcing services for customer communications management, has crafted a refreshed brand identity for the National Archives of Scotland (NAS) after winning a three-way creative pitch for the contract.
The NAS, based at Edinburgh's iconic General Register House, was concerned that its existing logo was dated and not flexible enough due to the fonts, colours and image used. RR Donnelley's creative team worked closely with the head of each department at The National Archives of Scotland to develop a fresh brand image and create visual identity guidelines to ensure the consistent use of the chosen brand across all departments of the prestigious organisation.
Following consultation, it was decided that an image of General Register House should be retained as it is one of the oldest custom built archive buildings still in continuous use in the world and is instantly recognisable as the home of the NAS. The chosen new identity is made up of two key components - a refreshed image of the NAS' headquarters coupled with a serif typeface to bring together the iconic image with a flexible font that can be adapted to fit different size and shaped formats. The colours of the old logo have been replaced with a more versatile colour palette of blue and grey, with the option of each department using a separate colour to ensure brand continuity and consistency. The RR Donnelley Global Document Solutions designed brand image will be used for all of the NAS' corporate literature, stationery, business cards, merchandising, marketing collateral, websites, signage and major building dressing.
