Awards are received for outstanding work and service both in the recipients’ industries and to the Association. Over 350 members are expected to attend this year’s dinner.
Brian Maddox, Executive Director of ASA Chicago said, “Our members are involved with ASA Chicago on a voluntary basis and this annual event is an excellent way for the association to pay tribute to the contributions and efforts of their fellow members and industry partners. It is a great recognition for the recipients in their respective industries.”
ASA Chicago honors the following members at the 2009 Annual Awards Dinner:
• Shari Brown, Outstanding Vendor Member of the Year
Shari Brown launched her career with Tasty Catering in 2005 and currently resides as the resident expert on event planning for the construction industry with 12 years of event planning experience. It’s no surprise with Shari’s vibrant personality that she is a co-chair on the ASAC social and expo committees. Shari is also an active member of CISCO (Construction Industry Services Corporation).
• Bulley & Andrews, Outstanding General Contractor of the Year
Founded in 1891, Bulley & Andrews, LLC is one of Chicago’s oldest and most accomplished general contracting firms. Together with Meyne, a division of Bulley & Andrews, LLC, the organization represents 200+ years of building industry experience. Their work has a regional focus and includes new construction, renovation and restoration projects in nearly every building market. Bulley & Andrews is a Charter member of the ASA Chicago GC Council since 2002.
• Erin Lavin Cabonargi, Public Building Commission, Outstanding Public Service of the Year
In her role as Executive Director of the Chicago PBC, Erin not only oversees agency and consultant management and over 50 employees, but is ultimately responsible for the planning, design and construction of schools, libraries, fire engine companies, police stations, park district field houses and senior centers on behalf of the City of Chicago and Cook County. The PBC is comprised of 11 commissioners and was created in 1956 through the authority of the state legislature in order to facilitate the financing, design and construction of government facilities. Erin is a LEED accredited professional and has attended Registered Energy Professional training as provided by the City of Chicago Department of Construction and Permits.
• Chicago 2016, Outstanding Partnership of the Year
Lori T. Healey is president of Chicago 2016. As president of Chicago 2016, Healey will oversee the bid’s community outreach and government relations activities, Olympic Village development and implementation of legacy programs. Lori is a member of the ASA Chicago “Build for 2016” subcommittee and has made it possible for our subcontractor/contractor members to participate in the preparations for the Olympic evaluation committee visit in April. ASA Chicago subcontractors did the entire build out and site preparation for the Fairmont hotel 20th floor where the Olympic Selection committee was based.
• Ron Holz, Power Construction, LLC, Outstanding General Superintendent of the Year
One might say Ron Holz was born with construction in his blood as his grandfather, father, and brother are all in the plumbing trade. Ron has been with Power Construction Company since 1992 and early assignments included Mount Sinai Hospital and U. of C. Biological Sciences Learning Center. He has also lead projects such as the Skybridge over Addison Ave. at Our Lady of Resurrection Hospital and the multi-year, multi-phase renovation and expansion programs at Resurrection Medical Center, St. Francis, and Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Medical Center and the new Patient Care Addition at Resurrection Medical.
• Andrew Johnson, Krusinski Construction Company, Outstanding General Contractors Council Representative of the Year
Andrew J. Johnson has been a Project Manager with Krusinski Construction Company for over 5 years and is celebrating his 10 year anniversary with the Company in 2009. Andrew is currently 130-hour OSHA trained, a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, an OSHA Outreach Trainer for the OSHA 10-hour and 30-hour courses and a member of American MENSA. Johnson is LEED Accredited and chairs Krusinski Construction Company’s Green Team. Andrew has been an active member of ASA for over six years and is also the recipient of ASA’s Outstanding General Superintendent award for 2003-2004.
• Ronald McDonald House, Outstanding Project of the Year
In June of 2006, the Ronald McDonald House near Advocate Hope Children’s Hospital House Council was formed. Made up of leaders from Hope, District 229, and the Oak Lawn area community, this group is dedicated to the House and its future in Oak Lawn. In November 2006, Leopardo Construction (General Contractor) and ASA Member, joined the team to partner with the architects to build a cost-effective, well-built facility. Additionally, ASA Subonctractor Members who worked on this project include: American Building Services, LLC, Ameriscan Design, Anagnos Door Company, Midwest Mechanical Construction, Nesko Electric Company, Schindler Elevator, W. W. Timbers, Welch Drywall and Wilkin Insulation. The ribbon cutting for the House took place on December 15, 2008 and has been welcoming families ever since.
• John Mooncotch, Outstanding Subcontractor of the Year
Owner and President John Mooncotch started Royal Crane Service in 1985. Today, Royal Crane has a fleet of 20 cranes serving markets from Wisconsin to St. Louis, east to Indianapolis and west into Iowa. The company started with man-lift and scissor-lift equipment and began adding to its fleet with boom trucks and truck-mounted cranes.
• Steve Oldendorf, Graycor, Construction Company, Outstanding Project Manager of the Year
Steve Oldendorf joined Graycor in 1996 as a member of Graycor’s Engineer Training Program and is currently a Senior Project Manager. With nearly 15 years of construction industry experience, Steve has successfully managed a number of multimillion dollar commercial projects, including the Promenade Bolingbrook, a 1.1 million square foot, main street-style town center located in Bolingbrook, IL. He is also a LEED-Accredited Professional.
• Tim Berry, F.H. Paschen, S.N. Nielsen, Outstanding Estimator of the Year
Tim Berry has 23 years of construction industry experience including 15 with F.H. Paschen, S.N. Nielsen. He is a graduate of Marquette University with a degree in Civil Engineering. During his career he has managed projects for the Chicago Transit Authority, United States Navy, Loyola University Medical Center, and Ameritech (now SBC). As Chief Estimator, Tim manages the complete process of assembling bids and proposals and averages 200-250 bids per year. Tim says that the best part of his job is the opportunity to assemble estimates on a variety of projects each year.
• Ronald Phillips, Outstanding Professional Member of the Year
Ron joined Aon Risk Services in February 2009 as Vice President in the Sales Department, responsible for developing business opportunities and maintaining client relationships Ron has over 19 years experience in his field and received his MBA from DePaul University. Ron is a committee chair, active member of ASA Chicago and is the Secretary of ASA’s subcommittee “Build for 2016” a group to support the needs of Chicago’s proposal to host the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
