ProcessOne, an instant messaging (IM) solutions provider with over 35 million registered users in the world, today announced the launch of its online IMstore to meet the growing demand for IM*. The IMstore will enable businesses to directly purchase instant messaging applications and services, which have been created by ProcessOne and independent XMPP developers, allowing them to customise their corporate instant messaging platforms to meet their specific needs.
Initially, users will be able to buy ProcessOne’s OneTeam IM client for the iPhone and corporate IM gateways from the IMstore. OneTeam gives users access to mobile IM services on the iPhone / iPod Touch devices. It is ideally suited for business as it can be used in a corporate environment with an organisation’s own XMPP server, meaning that users can communicate more securely using the public IM accounts they are familiar with. ProcessOne’s IM gateways enable businesses to connect to six of the most popular instant messaging networks – MSN, AIM, ICQ, Yahoo!, GoogleTalk and Twitter – without users needing to leave their existing corporate instant messaging solution, providing IT departments with greater control. As the IMstore continues to grow further applications will be added including VoIP and video applications.
ProcessOne is looking to create a developer ecosystem with the launch of the store, in order to tap into developers’ innovation and provide them with the opportunity to monetise the IM applications that they develop. By giving developers the opportunity to create their own applications and sell them through the store, ProcessOne aims to further promote the development of open standard instant messaging platforms and applications.
“Instant messaging is continuing to grow and especially as more enterprises are seeing it as a valuable communications tool,” commented Mickael Remond, CEO of ProcessOne. “The IMstore is a unique model for mixing open source and commercial software. By creating a marketplace, developers now have a way to showcase and make money from the IM applications that they develop. This is also very beneficial to businesses as they now have access to a one-stop shop for all their IM needs, which enables them to quickly purchase applications and customise their messaging platforms.”
*According to the Radcati Group, the number of IM accounts worldwide will grow from 1.8 billion in 2008 to over 3.7 billion by 2012
