Le Martin Pêcheur and Réunion Pélagique (both based in Reunion Island, near Mauritius) and Mayotte Aquaculture (on the island of Mayotte, in the Comoro archipelago) will have a stand at the European Seafood Exposition (ESE) in Brussels (Belgium) from 28 to 30 April. The stand will be part of the France AgriMer pavilion, representing a range of French companies, and is supported by UBIFRANCE, the French Agency for international business development and export support.
All three companies are seeking to develop their export sales and to establish contacts with partner companies based in Europe.
Le Martin Pêcheur offers fresh seafood products, from swordfish to shark
Le Martin Pêcheur (Hall 5 – Booth No101-8) has been focusing its development on the processing and marketing of superior-quality fresh seafood products, which are mostly exported to Europe. All year long, the company is engaged in the fishing and processing of swordfish, bluefin tuna, white albacore tuna, shark and marlin.
Le Martin Pêcheur has secured a European veterinarian agreement and processes its products in accordance with HACCP standards.
The fully refrigerated processing facility receives the catch upon disembarkation with no break in the cold chain. The fish are identified and stocked by hanging them on a rail, in order to avoid any damage by crushing. The facility, which extends over 600 square metres, is equipped to process several tonnes of product per day.
The wild fish caught in Indian Ocean waters are guaranteed free of chemical treatment, and they come from a protected source. The company practises selective fishing in order to optimise the preservation of ecosystems and to ensure the most regular supply possible.
Réunion Pélagique puts exotic deep-sea fish on your plate
Réunion Pélagique (Hall 5 – Booth No201-13) sells all of the great deep-sea species, from albacore tuna and white albacore tuna to dolphin, marlin and shark.
Réunion Pélagique works in partnership with shipowning company Enez, whose fishing fleet – the largest in Reunion Island – operates over a large maritime area with protected resources. In that way, the company can ensure a regular supply all year long. The plant operated by Réunion Pélagique is located a few hundred metres from the fishing harbour, and processes over 1,000 tonnes of fish per annum. HACCP standards and cold-chain regulations are meticulously enforced.
Réunion Pélagique provides whole fish of extreme freshness for a number of highly demanding and specific markets (including Japanese restaurants, as well as the markets of Spain and Southern Italy). It also sells vacuum-packed loin, as well a range of products in innovative packaging intended for mass-retail self-service (individual steak or combinations of two fish, for instance).
Mayotte Aquaculture boasts a fish farm in the middle of a lagoon
Mayotte Aquaculture (Hall 5 – Booth No101-5) has built up its business around a fish farm located in a natural setting – an enclosure immersed within the Mayotte Island lagoon. The company supplies spotted umbrina and cobia; those fish are mostly intended for top gastronomic venues.
Since 1998, the company has had a packaging facility compliant with EEC standards and has enjoyed the benefit of efficient distribution channels linking it to mainland France. Most of the production exported to that destination consists in whole large-sized umbrina (3 to 4 kilos), packaged on ice inside a refrigerated box. Thanks to the development of new markets, the company hopes to achieve its production target, which is of 1,000 tonnes per annum.
Mayotte Aquaculture professionally trains and hires young Mahoran people, through a successful sustainable-development approach.
