Austin, TX, United States, 2009/03/25 - Triad Building Maintenance and C&D Recycling is among the first Texas Recyclers to staff its ranks with a United States Green Building Council, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, Accredited Professional (USGBC LEED® AP).
The success means that the Texas community has an additional resource to protect the environment.
On March 5th 2009 Christopher Douglas, a Triad operations manager, became the first in the Austin area commercial recycling industry to pass the very demanding accreditation process according to the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) website. The USGBC LEED AP designation represents a high level of professional development and achievement within the sustainable building community otherwise known as “Green Building”. With passage of the examination process, Christopher joins one other Texas LEED Accredited Professional from the Waste Management and Recycling industry, and 81,155 designated LEED Accredited professionals worldwide. Nationwide less than six LEED Accredited Professionals practice their craft within the commercial waste management and recycling industry reflecting a growing recycling and sustainability trend within the construction industry. The recent commercial construction trend includes diversion of construction waste from landfills, salvaging building components, refurbishing and reusing building materials, and installation of construction materials containing recycled content. Additional market forces have driven the construction industry to respond to community concerns over the environmental impact of new construction, meet the calls for reduced energy consumption, respond to in increased occupant safety and productivity requirements, meet the reduced carbon footprint expectations, and incorporate more stringent levels of government regulations and codes in design and construction methodologies. In response to these and many other concerns USGBC developed the LEED rating system.
The USGBC LEED Rating System Product Portfolio consist of 6 products designed to assist Project Owners, Developers, Architects, Engineers, General Contracts, and Consultants reduce the environmental impact of designing, constructing, and operating buildings. The LEED rating system products consist of: Existing Buildings, Commercial Interiors, Homes, Core and Shell, Neighborhood Development, and New Construction and Major Renovation. The rating system is voluntary, consensus based, market driven system that enables the fair evaluation of the “whole building” performance through out its lifecycle. A LEED certified building represents a third party assessment of the building’s environmental quality to the community and its commercial performance to the marketplace.
