Satmap Systems Ltd is pleased to announce the launch of its online Route Planner and Route Share Network. The Route Planner offers customers access to over £7,500 worth of Ordnance Survey mapping. The routes can be uploaded from and downloaded to the Satmap Active 10 sports GPS. Customers can also share favourite routes with other outdoor sports enthusiasts via the fully searchable Route Share Network.
Richard Calthrop-Owen, Managing Director for Satmap Systems Ltd, commented: “Our customers are very keen outdoor sports people and part of the enjoyment is the preparation, planning and post-analysis. Our online Route Planner will give users the tools to do this more easily. We hope people will post up routes they have particularly enjoyed on the Route Share Network for others to experience and maybe also leave feedback. We’d like to see this area evolve into a really great resource for Satmap customers to get the most out of their outdoor sports.”
Satmap Route Planner
The Route Planner is based on a Microsoft Virtual Earth Platform which incorporates full global road mapping and satellite imagery. The additional map layers consist of the Ordnance Survey 1:25k Explorer and 1:50k Landranger mapping for the whole of Great Britain.
Aside from being able to plan routes and download these onto the Active 10, the Route Planner will allow customers to edit uploaded routes, view the elevation profile of a route and also print out a paper version of the route and map to take as back-up when out on the hills.
Satmap Route Share Network
The Satmap Route Share Network has a Google Maps platform and provides full global road mapping, a satellite and terrain view, plus 3D aerial photography view. Customers can share routes they have enjoyed and categorise these by difficulty, length and activity i.e. mountain biking, walking, horse riding. Users can review and comment on routes they have downloaded which will help others find a route that meets their needs. There is also an advanced search facility.
The Route Planner and Route Share Network is available free of charge to all customers who have bought their Active 10 before Monday 23rd March 2009 and also registered their unit prior to 1st April 2009. For Satmap customers who fall outside of these requirements access to the Route Planner and Route Share Network costs £79.99.
A Mac compatible version which will allow the uploading and downloading of routes onto Mac computers will be available later this year.
