In an era of mechanization and mass production, it is a rare opportunity to witness artisans engaged in the age-old craft of individual candle making. This weekend, an old-world style, high-end candle and bath producer in Paso Robles, VERIS Candle & Bath Company, draws back the curtains before their rustic boutique factory and showroom to reveal this artful and intimate process. The three-day opening and educational event offers guests a window into a mesmerizing world of melting, mixing, and molding the finest of all-natural soy, beeswax, and essential plant oil candles. Patrons are meanwhile invited to taste other handcrafted delights from the Paso Robles community in a presentation of free local appetizers and wines.
Owner and founder Lisa Hansen, a Cal Poly San Luis Obispo graduate, views the new showroom as an “incubator of ideas” where customers can escape from the fast pace of a modern world, test new VERIS products, and be inspired by the scents, sights, and traditions of a bygone era.
VERIS handmade candle and bath products are sold in over 150 stores nationwide, in addition to numerous private label accounts. The showroom is open daily, Monday – Saturday 10-6 and Sunday 11-4, and is located at 2103 Wisteria Lane in Paso Robles, California. For more information, call (805) 674-7660 or visit their website.
About Veris
Founder Lisa Zimmerman-Hansen first acquired a passion for beeswax candles while attending Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. Purchasing her first beeswax candle at the campus bookstore, she quickly discovered the benefits of the clean-burning wax. However, it was the delicious honey-scent of the beeswax that Lisa appreciated the most. The warm light and natural aroma of the candle soothed senses worn by too much coffee, too little sleep, and admittedly, “really bad study habits.” Studying by candle light became her new routine.
Lisa would eventually learn to make her own beeswax candles and discover the benefits of other natural waxes and botanical fragrances as well. Using local Farmers’ Markets as her testing ground, VERIS was borne out of a hobby in 2004. Although we still do a few of our local Farmers Markets, VERIS (veriscandles.com) has grown considerably, and, with the assistance of sales representatives on the West and East Coasts, VERIS products are now sold in over 135 stores, and marketed in specialty catalogues and internet stores. More recently, we have expanded our business to include private-label and event services. From private label candles to special event favors, this segment of our business is truly keeping us busy.
