San Diego, CA, United States, 01/26/2009 - Butterfield Trail Golf Club in El Paso, Texas, and The Castle Course in St. Andrews, Scotland, have been honored as the 2008 winners in Golf Inc. magazine’s annual Development of the Year competition.

“This was one of the most competitive Development of the Year contests in recent memory,” said Chase Peckham, associate publisher of Golf Inc. “Despite the slowdown in golf development around the globe, we found that the quality of the entries was exceptional.”
Golf Inc. will honor the winners and finalists at the upcoming Golf Inc. Spring Conference at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Fla., March 30-April 1, 2009.
The winners also are featured in the January-February issue of Golf Inc.
Butterfield Trail Golf Club, a Tom Fazio-designed club, was honored as the top finisher in the U.S. courses category. Runner-up was Ridge Creek Dinuba Golf Club in Dinuba, Calif. Finalists were The Links at Summerly in Lake Elsinore, Calif., The Timilick Club in Truckee, Calif., and Venetian Bay Golf Club in New Smyrna Beach, Fla.
The Castle Course, designed by David MacLay Kidd and the seventh course in the historic St. Andrews Links Trust portfolio, was the winner in the International Courses category. Runner-up was The Els Club Dubai in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Other international finalists were Taba Heights Golf Resort in Taba, Egypt, Lübker Golf Resort in Nimtofte, Denmark, and Sueno Resort Pines and Dunes Courses in Belek, Antalya, Turkey.
Judges for the contest were Fidel Garcia, president of Ryangolf Corp., Richard Centolella, managing principal of EDSA and Mike Nuzzo, principal of Nuzzo Course Design.
