Nine-time GRAMMY Award winner Paquito D'Rivera will headline a Ventura Music Festival concert at 8pm on Feb. 14 with his Funk Tango Trio.
International star and master of bebop, Afro-Cuban and Latin Jazz, Paquito D’Rivera has played with musicians as diverse as Carlos Santana and Turtle Island Quartet and is the only artist to have won GRAMMY Awards in both Classical and Latin Jazz categories with Paquito’s “Funk Tango,” winner of Best Latin Jazz Album, in 2008.
With a killer groove, D’Rivera, along with his Funk Tango Trio, will bring robust Latin beats and classic jazz notes to the stage and pay homage to his Cuban roots through song and melody.
“Paquito D’Rivera is the biggest name yet to grace our Latin Jazz concerts,” said Nuvi Mehta, Artistic Director of the Ventura Music Festival. “It is a real treat to bring him to Ventura.”
Born in Cuba in June 1948, Paquito D’Rivera was seen as a musical child prodigy in Cuba, making his debut at the National Theatre of Havana when he was 10. Since launching his career, he has made more than 30 albums as a solo artist in the fields of jazz, bebop and Latin jazz.
He tours worldwide with his various ensembles: the Chamber Jazz Ensemble, the Paquito D’Rivera Big Band and the Paquito D’Rivera Quintet.
