Mike Hicks, inventor of The Pig Putt, is a veteran PGA Tour caddy and scoring game expert. Mike teamed with Payne Stewart for twelve years during which the pair won multiple tour events including the US Open at Pinehurst. In recent years Mike has worked with PGA Tour players Bob Estes, Jonathon Byrd and others. In 2008 Mike released The Big Putt, a putting training system endorsed by multiple PGA Tour winners.
At Duke, Mike will share experiences from life on Tour; tour inspired putting tips and drills to improve scoring performance. Mike will also host a putting contest that is open to all junior golfers, ages 18 and under.
This special event is being held in conjunction with the 2009 opening event of the Tarheel Golf Foundation, Tarheel Junior Golf Tour. The Tarheel Junior Golf Tour provides a series of golf tournaments for elite junior golfers. Entrants for the Duke University Classic include three times Callaway Junior World Champion Grayson Murray and four time AJGA Champion Bo Andrews. Other entrants include former US Kids Golf World Champions, Future Masters Champions and other participants with multiple junior wins.
The Tarheel Golf Foundation is a non-profit corporation dedicated to providing high quality, low cost competitive golf events for junior golfers seeking to play intercollegiate golf. Events are located primarily within one hour's drive of Raleigh-Durham International Airport, which includes the Research Triangle, Sandhills and Pinehurst areas.
In addition to the elite Tarheel Junior Golf Tour, the Tarheel Golf Foundation operates a developmental tour for children ages 7-14. The Tarheel Future Stars Series consists of one day golf tournaments for elementary and middle school golfers so that they may learn to play competitive golf, meet new friends and develop their skills.
