The Kansas State Fair and Greteman Group took home the overall best advertising campaign for fairs in its division from the recent International Association of Fairs and Expositions’ (IAFE) convention in Las Vegas. The campaign features whimsical use of traditional fair animals – horse, hog and bunny.
“This award proves the Kansas State Fair creative stands up against that of fairs worldwide,” said Denny Stoecklein, Kansas State Fair general manager. “We continue to rely on Greteman Group’s creative strategy to reach and connect with our broad group of fairgoers.”
The campaign, now in its third year, focuses on key reasons people attend the state’s largest event: to hang out, enjoy time with friends and “people watch.” Fun headlines – “Hang With the Hogs,” “Check Out the Studs” and “Pick Up Some Bunnies” – appeal to all types of fairgoers and complement the overall theme: “It’s a Wild Ride, Baby.”
“Kudos to the Kansas State Fair management team for trusting in our creative and partnering with us to develop an edgy, standout campaign that resonates with the target markets,” said Sonia Greteman, president and creative director of Greteman Group.
The Kansas State Fair also received honors for the best newspaper ad/color print, best radio, best television, and first place in Division Three for competitive exhibit display method and/or prop. Division Three encompasses national and international fairs with attendance of 250,001-500,000. Examples include the Arkansas State Fair, Missouri State Fair and Expo Quebec, located in Quebec City.
The IAFE awards work to encourage fair members to share best practices and ideas that will advance the industry. There are a total of fourteen Distinguished Award categories for the Hall of Honor Communications, each divided into five divisions by attendance. Entries are judged by advertising, promotions, media, and public relations professionals from across the United States.
