Frost & Sullivan European Waste Management Growth Strategy Leadership of the Year Award is presented to Séché Environnement for sustained, growth-focused strategies that have enabled it to achieve exceptional growth and position itself as a strong player in the mature French waste market.
"Séché Environnement's growth strategy has been a strong blend of strategic acquisitions, the development of supportive infrastructure and man power, technical expertise and timely legislative compliance," notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Karthikeyan Ravikumar. "The company's ability to stay on track with the present market and plan successfully for the future has also underpinned its continued success."
Séché Environnement's well developed infrastructure includes class I storage facilities (hazardous waste), physical-chemical treatment plants, solvent recovery units and incinerators with a capacity to handle 580,000 tonnes of waste/year of which 460,000 is hazardous waste. In addition, a work force of 15,000 employees (including the Saur Group subsidiary) has given Séché Environnement the competence to manage large quantities of waste, irrespective of the quality.
"The company's strong infrastructure coupled with its ability to offer services at affordable pricing, while ensuring legislative compliance has attracted major industrial waste producers," explains Ravikumar. "Industries look at Séché Environnement as a one stop solution for all their waste management needs due to the company's capacity to offer integrated waste solutions for all kinds of waste streams."
Key acquisitions in the waste management industry, including those of Tredi Environment and Saur Group, have helped Séché Environnement become a strong market player. These acquisitions have increased Séché's treatment capacity, its work force and customer base. Today, Séché Environnement is a major market participant, holding 15.0 per cent of shares in the French waste and water market.
Recognising the potential in the developing East European waste market, Séché has started operations in Hungary, including a class I storage facility. The company also has a notable presence in Germany (hazardous gas treatment facility), Spain (solvent regeneration plant) and France (gas treatment facility).
Séché Environnement has consistently adapted itself to the changing dynamics of the waste management market, which has been heavily influenced by regulations and legislations such as the Landfill Directive. Sensing the drift away from landfills, Séché Environnement has focused on developing its treatment and recycling facilities involving PCB decontamination and recovery of metals. In addition, the acquisitions of Tredi Environment and Saur have assisted the company in developing its incineration and recycling infrastructure, thereby enabling it to successfully address the current needs of the market.
"Séché Environnement has made sustainable growth and environmental conservation an integral part of its growth strategy," remarks Ravikumar. "This is evident from certifications such as ISO 9000 (quality), ISO 14000 (environment), and OHSAS 18000 (health & safety) that the company has achieved."
The Frost & Sullivan Award for Growth Strategy Leadership of the Year is presented each year to the company that has demonstrated an exceptional growth strategy within the industry.
