Youthful Freddy Kempf has taken the world by storm with his panache and bigger-than-life presence. Ventura concert to include selections by Bach, Chopin and Rachmaninoff.
Piano wunderkind Freddy Kempf, who sells out concerts worldwide, will make his Ventura Music Festival debut on Sunday, January 11, 2009 at Community Presbyterian Church,1555 Poli Street, Ventura. Ventura Music Festival Artistic Director Nuvi Mehta will host a pre-concert conversation at 7 pm with the concert beginning at 7:30 pm.
In a recital dubbed “Bach to Rach,” Kempf will perform J.S. Bach’s “Goldberg Variations,” Rachmaninoff's “Corelli Variations” and Chopin's “Scherzo No.4.”
“While searching for a Liszt recording for use on a radio show, I narrowed my search to two of my favorite performances, one by Evgeny Kissin and the other by Freddy Kempf,” said Nuvi Mehta, Artistic Director of the Ventura Music Festival. “Naturally, I jumped at the chance to bring this young artist to Ventura. He will play Bach, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff, and I wouldn't be surprised if he brought down the house.”
Born in London in 1977, Kempf began playing piano at age 4. He burst on the scene after winning the BBC’s 1992 Young Musician of the Year Competition with a memorable performance of Rachmaninoff's “Paganini Variations.” Taking third prize in 1998's Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow cemented his reputation and burgeoning career.
Kempf has performed solo recitals and with orchestras throughout Europe, including Berlin, Salzburg, London, New York, New Zealand, Australia and China.
