Henderson, NV, United States, 12/15/2008 - 26 year old Steve Villanueva, a former college bowling star at San Jose St., and a member of Junior Team USA in 2000 defeated nine time Team USA bowler David Haynes for the second Corona Bowling Challenge December 14 at the Silver Nugget Casino.

For the second straight time, nine time Team USA bowler David Haynes was heavily favored to win the Corona Bowling Challenge at the Silver Nugget Casino in N Las Vegas and for the second time he saw a ‘young gun’ come away with the title. First it was 17 year old Billy Platt, and now its 26 year old Steve Villanueva.
Villanueva used a strong power game to edge Haynes 206 -171 to gain the title. Three time Hall of Famer Bob Purzycki and local Las Vegas favorite Steve Eckman rounded out the finalists.
The tournament finals were televised by TV4U.Com, the 42 channel home of classic tv shows online.
“This was a very exciting finals with a wide variety of top bowlers,” explained Silver Nugget Casino Bowling director Eric Heflin. “Steve Villanueva and David Haynes are world class bowlers who are at the top of their profession, while Bob Purzycki is a top flight senior bowler who has had national acclaim for decades. And Steve Eckman is a true Rocky story and a fan favorite.”
In a TV special event, Villanueva then had a ‘King of the Hill’ challenge match with the first Corona Challenge Cup Champion, Billy Platt. Villanueva kept his hot hand and defeated the 17 year old youngster 206-185.
“We made the lanes very challenging,” explained Heflin, who is also a PBA bowler. “We increased the degree of difficulty to that of a PBA bowling match because of the quality of the field of bowlers.”

The third installment of the Corona Bowling Challenge will happen in January at the Silver Nugget Casino and already there are more than 100 entries for the tournament.

The Silver Nugget Bowling Center is a 24 lane AMF facility offering both league play and open play seven days a week. The Center is equipped with a state-of-the-art scoring system, snack bar, air hockey tables, lockers and a fully equipped Pro Shop. In addition, there is an Arcade for the kids and a bar for the adults near by.
