Because they work in different departments, Rich Walker and Lauren Stephens don’t interact very often at work. But the warehouse employee and the sales manager had a great time as teammates playing Match Game during this year’s Employee Appreciation Week at the TharpeRobbins Company, Inc. a global leader in the managed recognition and rewards industry.
The special week allowed more than 250 employees at the Statesville, N.C and Attleboro, Mass. locations to collaborate with others who they don’t normally work with on a day-to-day basis. With the theme of ‘Work Hard, Play Hard’, people were able to display their knowledge by playing game shows such as Deal or No Deal, Family Feud, Match Game and Let’s Make a Deal. Several brave employees even showed off a talent in the TharpeRobbins version of the Gong Show.
“Our team always enjoys the chance to take a break from the serious side of things and have some fun,” says Julie Davis, director of human resources for TharpeRobbins. “In years past, management basically entertained the staff. But, this year, the game shows and group activities were structured to allow more opportunities for interaction.”
Other staff members signed up to be the judges for the Employee Gong Show, acted as the celebrity panelists for Match Game and in some of the more memorable moments from the week, senior management played the roles of the models for Deal or No Deal and became the celebrity family for Family Feud. All of these activities involved performing in character – which allowed everyone to see each other in a different light and resulted in team building.
“In our business, we are passionate about recognition because we know from our own experience that it is an indicator of employee satisfaction which directly affects customer satisfaction,” says Anthony Luciano, senior vice president of sales and marketing. “The higher the satisfaction of your workforce, the higher the customer satisfaction, which can lead to more business and increased sales. Our Employee Appreciation Week is a great way to say thank you to each other for the excellent work that happens here day after day.”
The privately-held TharpeRobbins was created through the February 2007 merger of The Robbins Company, founded in 1892, and The Tharpe Company Inc., founded in 1981. Customized programs include products ranging from personalized jewelry to fine art, electronics, sports equipment and outdoor merchandise. The company also offers rewards through local and national services, entertainment and recreation.
The company headquarters are located on a 25-acre campus in Statesville, NC. and include an extensive showroom and state-of-the-art distribution facility. The Attleboro, Mass., operations include creative services, software development and jewelry manufacturing. The company is ISO certified.
