In recognition of its efforts to develop an advanced biosurfactant that can act as an effective remediation agent in oil-contaminated water and soils, Frost and Sullivan proudly acknowledged Bio Research Center of Japan Energy Corporation as a deserving recipient of this Award.
Wai Fun Kee, Research Analyst with Frost & Sullivan's Technical Insights group Asia Pacific says, "Oil spills are a major form of ocean pollution that can result in the death of a whole host of aquatic species, as well as contribute towards the contamination of the shoreline environment. Cleanup of oil spills traditionally relied on chemical surfactants but bio-based surfactants are gaining ground as a safer and more environment-friendly alternative. One of the more effective biosurfactants developed thus far is Japan Energy Corp's JE1058BS, developed by the company's Bio Research Center. JE1058BS was shown to reduce the oil content of oil-contaminated seawater by 81.8% after a 28 day period."
She further observed, "Aside from being an oil spill remediation agent, JE1058BS can also be applied in the area of bioremediation of oil-contaminated soil, in-situ soil flushing, and microbial enhanced oil recovery (MEOR)."
