BitDefender Fights Piracy Campaign in the Philippines

NewswireToday - /newswire/ - Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines, 11/17/2008 - BitDefender holds Anti-Piracy educational seminars in several colleges and universities in the Philippines, while introducing student-friendly prices of USD 5.00 on its newly-launched v2009 product line.

Finally, Filipino students can now own original anti-virus software for their personal computers without the high prices.

BitDefender®, a global provider of anti-virus software and data security solutions is announcing its biggest academic program of the year, which will be held in the first phase in Manila. The BitDefender Fights Piracy Campaign is set to increase the students’ awareness of a security software need and to help build-up the anti-piracy awareness through seminars held on school premises by a BitDefender representative visiting the Philippines on November 2008.

Participating colleges and universities this year for the campaign include the De La Salle College of Saint Benilde, University of Santo Tomas (Faculty of Engineering), Asia Pacific College, and Manila Central University.

BitDefender (bitdefender.com) complements the educational side of this campaign with an amnesty contribution by introducing student-friendly prices on its newly-launched v2009 product line. This move directly addresses the problem of students using and purchasing pirated anti-virus software due to lack of budget or money.

“BitDefender is proud to partner with the universities in the region in their commitment to putting original software security within students' reach," said Vitor Souza, the Global PR Manager for BitDefender. "Our distributor, IPSYSTEMS, Inc. , will be the liaison on this project on the local front, encouraging the highly reputed schools to take a stand in the anti-piracy campaign”.

“We are proud to be part of this effort which links Manila classrooms to the rest of the world in terms of security and safety,” said Patricia B. Celis, VP for sales and marketing for IPSYSTEMS, Inc. “By making original anti-virus software available to the Filipino students, we are able to fight one aspect of software piracy in a very definite way.”
