The LEED Green Building Rating System™ is a voluntary, consensus-based program for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. The US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED is a nationally accepted guide for the design, construction, and operation of green buildings. Building owners and operators who incorporate LEED in their building process have the necessary tools to deliver instant and measurable results on their buildings’ performance. Design to LEED – Technical Review will prepare participants to pass the current version of the LEED NC exam.
The participants will be introduced to:
• Credit-by-credit LEED Green Building Rating System (Site, Water, Energy, Materials, Indoor Environmental Quality and Innovation)
• Process for registering a building for LEED certification and the LEED Online forms
• Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Certified levels of LEED certification
• Requirements for attaining the credits, and the documentation requirements of LEED certification
• Sample questions and problems that demonstrate how to apply the LEED Green Building Rating System™ in scenarios similar to those on the exam
• Valuable green building resources on a USB drive.
The seminar will discuss how design professionals can implement sustainable practices in our own discipline and business. More and more private businesses and public entities are adopting sustainability initiatives as an integral part of their operational strategy in order to maximize production efficiency and minimize waste. There are both environmental and financial benefits to earning LEED certification. LEED-certified buildings:
1. Lower operating costs and increased asset value.
2. Reduce waste sent to landfills.
3. Conserve energy and water.
4. Healthier and safer for occupants.
5. Reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions.
6. Qualify for tax rebates, zoning allowances and other incentives in hundreds of cities.
7. Demonstrate an owner's commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility.
The course creator and presenter Joy Dorst commented, “We are happy to offer Florida Contractors, Architects, Landscape Architects, Interior Designers and other professionals a comfortable, educational, and stimulating course as part of our learning opportunities that not only allow continuing education credit but also provide an environmentally friendly way to learn and grow our businesses.” The 10 CE seminar is $299 and includes continental breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and coffee, and parking.
