The mutual building society aims to donate a total of £7,500 to charities that can show their projects, programmes and activities will strengthen the communities in which its employees and members live and work, and those that conserve the local environment.
“We are particularly interested in hearing from charities that we haven’t supported before, especially if our donation can make a substantial difference to their projects,” commented Paul Kilbride, chief executive of Chesham Building Society.
“We run the building society for the benefit of our members. They told us they wanted to support the local community, so that’s what we’re doing. If you’re local and want to do something that will benefit others around you, then we really want to hear from you,” he added.
The building society recently made a donation to Little Chalfont Good Companions Club, which caters for the social needs of the elderly, so that 40 of its members could enjoy a lunch outing together. In the last year, it has also supported Relate Mid Thames & Buckinghamshire, Bank Farm Riding for the Disabled, Chesham High School, Chiltern Citizens Advice Bureau, the Hospice of St Francis and Florence Nightingale Hospice.
Chesham Building Society is asking charities and members of the public to download their nomination forms at the Chesham Building Society website. The deadline for nominations is 30 November 2008.
As a mutual organisation, Chesham Building Society's commitment to consumers is its priority. It has no external shareholders to pay, so it can use its profits to offer competitive interest rates to its members. This is the unique benefit that consumers get when they belong to a building society.
Because of its responsible lending policies, Chesham Building Society has one of the lowest mortgage arrears rates in the industry. It has branches in Chesham, Aylesbury and Little Chalfont, and provides funding and active support to charities and good causes in the local area.
