How can we best help fulfill our children’s potential? Choosing the best early learning program available is a great start!
Pyramid is an approach to early learning that transforms classrooms through powerful guiding principles designed to optimize your child’s capacity for complex learning.
Developed in the Netherlands and used in Germany, Japan and India, Pyramid is now available in Midtown Atlanta at FIO360 Early Care and Learning Center.
The four cornerstones of Pyramid: Nearness. Emotional closeness, safety and security are required to optimize children’s ability to grow, develop, and become confident enough to explore and learn new things. Relational Nearness is created by providing a balance of security and clear boundaries with freedom of choice. Educational Nearness involves creating learning experiences starting with familiar skills and concepts to build interest and excitement for more complex learning ahead. Relational and Educational Nearness creates a safe framework for learning possibilities in the beautiful eco-friendly environment at FIO360.
Distance. Taking increasing initiative towards developing independence and self-reliance, is Relational Distancing. Educational Distancing is when children are ready to take risks learning new things in complex and abstract ways. Teachers at FIO360 create an environment where children become autonomous and stretch their imaginations, expand their horizons, and reach for deeper understanding.
Initiative of the Child. This is both the starting point and the end goal of Pyramid’s educational process. Pyramid will optimize the architecture of your child’s brain through thoughtful and intentional activities that will develop increased competence and autonomy.
Initiative of the Teacher. Research clearly shows that the initiative of the teacher is an essential part of a superior educational process. The role of the Pyramid Teacher at FIO360 is to provide targeted support as your child develops. Teachers create the possibilities, offer support, demonstrate by showing or doing, provide verbal guidance, and stimulate your child to think and solve problems.
Pyramid optimizes learning through the use of a four-step process built into exciting, month-long projects.
Orientation jump-starts interest in the project. Teachers focus on familiar skills and concepts related to the new project to build excitement for the learning ahead.
Demonstration engages children in learning through their five senses. New project concepts are shared as children participate in multi-faceted experiences building a foundation of basic under-standing. Children experience concepts in the “here and now” as they touch, taste, smell, hear and see the materials used at FIO360.
Broadening is when children’s conceptual understanding is expanded. Teachers connect previous learning to children’s. Children take educational distance through questions about things that happened in the past, have not yet happened or are not concrete.
Deepening allows children to apply their experiences from the previous steps to more difficult activities, problem solving independently, moving away from concrete experiences to thinking about things on an abstract level and using knowledge with flexibility and creativity.
Pyramid will take your child from nearness to distance through this intentional process in FIO360’s well-equipped, stimulating environment. FIO360 offers Pyramid to toddlers through preschooler, Monday - Friday from 7 am – 7 pm. FIO360 is dedicated to providing the highest quality care and education for your child.
