The increasing demands placed on remote communities to upgrade and offer first rate educations to a community bent on building something better has left an indelible impression at Lan-Yu Primary School. This school found on tropical Orchid Island off the coast of Taiwan has found what they consider the Green light answer. The long struggling citizens received funds from the local government to upgrade their facilities and in a revolutionary move, have opted for the “Greener solution” and embraced LED light bulbs from GlacialTech, an emerging Taiwanese LED light manufacturer.

The Project
While many people would think about light bulbs last when given such a generous grant from their government, the school’s executive council has seen beyond structural defects to something that corrodes their everyday existence; namely that monthly electricity bill. In an attempt to bring down the soaring costs of electricity consumption, they have installed over 600 LED-BR40 globes throughout the premises. Their brand of choice: GlacialLight; a premium LED manufacturer with an impeccable record. Well known for contributing to a similar project on the main island of Taiwan, where a 20 KW electricity bill was reduced to a mere 4KW per month just by changing to GlacialLight LED spotlights.

GlacialLight
GlacialLight, the new sub-brand of GlacialTech will leverage the GlacialLight products to be better and higher in quality than competing products using high quality heatsinks, specialized power units and Light Emitting Diode (LED) luminaries, giving them longer life (in some cases excess of 50 000hrs) with higher lumen throughout the lifecycle.

Advantages of LED compared to traditional lighting
While LED luminary technology is at its infancy, GlacialLight is at the forefront to bring power savings to those in need. The motto of “Lighting you always” is extremely apt since almost all LED lights are rated at 50 000hrs lifetime, many thousands of hours more than regular and traditional light sources. LED lights offer the following advantages and benefits compared to traditional globes (Filament) and compact fluorescent Lamp (CFL) products, such as directional lighting, which is ideal for torches (Flashlights) and spotlights. There are no starting problems in cold environments because LED’s are “Instant on” with no warm up time needed as seen in conventional CFL lighting. In addition, LED lighting solutions do not contain environmentally hazardous metals such as mercury or sodium and do not emit potentially harmful Ultraviolet radiation or Infrared radiation like Halogen lamps. Another benefit is the extremely long life cycle of around 50 000 hrs which lowers maintenance costs in the long term. The GlacialLight LED product range offers considerable power savings while extending long product life cycles under normal conditions. The advantages of LED lighting adding to the lowering of the world’s carbon footprint cannot be underestimated. With GlacialTech’s help, and the Governments generosity, the Lan Yu Primary School has cut overall power consumption on an island away from the main power grid and the forward thinking executive council will reap the rewards for years to come.
