October and November just got scarier for national radio and New York stage audiences. The Depression era and Orson Welles seem to be haunting Joe Bevilacqua, who has played Welles in a number of radio shows and was featured as Welles's Professor Pierson in last year's 'War of the Worlds" recreation at the Shadowland Theatre in Ellenville, New York.
Now, Bevilacqua is involved in several new Welles-related shows, including a radio documentary about the infamous 1938 broadcast, airing on October 30, 2008 on NPR stations nationwide.
Plus, on Friday, October 31, 8:07 pm., Bevilacqua will essay multiple roles in a live on-stage 70th Anniversary recreation of "The War of the Worlds," at The Lafayette Theatre, 97 Lafayette Avenue in Suffern, New York. Doors open at 7:30 pm. For information, call 845-369-8234. The stage performance will also air LIVE on WRCR radio, AM1300, Rockland County, New York.
If that were not enough, the veteran, award-winning broadcaster, who has created hundreds of radio plays for NPR stations and XM Radio, has two 1940s style radio plays airing nationally on public radio. and is currently recording an audio book, "It's That Time Again: The New Stories of Old-time Radio," being released in 2009.
Finally, on November 7, 8, 9, Bevilacqua will take audiences back to 1941 when they enter the Casa Mia Restaurant in Highland, NY, to be part of the 90 Miles Off Broadway production of “The Case of the Murdering Microphone,” on Friday, November 7 and Saturday, November 8, at 7:00pm, and Sunday, November 9, at 5:30 pm.
