With the pre-registration deadline of December 1, 2008 quickly approaching for the European Union’s new regulation for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH), organizations are seeking solutions and assistance from partners to handle the complexity of adhering to this new regulation. SAP released a comprehensive REACH Compliance solution in August 2008 to tackle business disruptions associated with this regulation and alleviate substance usage, management, and logistical and legal processes. Since the release, less than 20 partners are currently identified as preferred by SAP® to provide global implementations of their REACH Compliance solution. SAP estimates that an average chemical company will manage 15,000 compliance projects in the next several years and another study by PricewaterhouseCoopers indicates that many chemical companies may miss the December 1, 2008 REACH pre-registration deadline. The enterprise-wide coordination of compliance activities can be difficult to manage and many companies remain uncertain about the type of technology commitment required to achieve compliance. SAP’s recognition of leading REACH Compliance implementation partners alleviates concerns about qualifications needed to implement the REACH Compliance solution successfully.
