EuropeAntiquetrip.com has announced that airport changes in their European antique shopping tour has kept the costs at last years levels. Each February a group of savvy antiquers take the low cost three country shopping excursion to the major antiques markets of Europe.
The tour is a "no frills" inexpensive adventure which includes The antiques fair at Arezzo in Italy, The massive antiques fairs at Swinderby and Newark in England and The Famous Paris flea markets in france. The costs have traditionally been kept low by travelling in the off season, staying in bargain hotels and concentrating on antique hunting rather than playing tourist.
On thursday January 29th, 2009 The group Leaves from Boston, Ma. but instead of the usual flight to Florence the group has re-routed to Bologna,Italy which saves hundreds of dollars. After a stop in Florence the group heads for the small Tuscany town of Arezzo which on the first Sunday of each month hosts a huge antiques fair which fills the streets with antiques dealers from all over the Mediterranean. After a few days antique hunting in the area, the avid shoppers then fly from Pisa to Nottingham, England where they shop the huge antiques fair at Swinderby air field then on Thursday the DMG show which is the largest antiques show in the world opens at Newark.
After four intense picking days in the UK the group heads for the Paris flea markets. This year the group will fly directly from Nottingham into Paris rather than take the chunnel train under the English channel. This new twist in the itinerary saves money but also saves time because the flight leaves from much closer to Newark than the Trainstation. Saturday through Monday are spent exploring the Paris flea markets at Vanves, Clignancourt and Montrueil as well as the auctions at Hotel Drouot. The tour promotors have arranged for special deals on shipping the purchases home. According to Donna DeFelice of Ambassador travel the small changes in the usual travel itinerary have saved lots of money, but still retained the unique three country intense antiquing experience.
In spite of the recent increases in airline fuel costs, the trip is still the most inexpensive way of doing some serious European antique shopping. EuropeAntiqueTrip.com has some space available in the February trip. The cheap rates are achieved by paying for tickets etc. in advance, so interested participants are encouraged to get in a reservation early.
