A highly accomplished individual and mother, Yasmin has been recognized as one of the top Latinas by Hispanic Magazine (2003, 2004, 2005) and also listed as one of the most influential Latinas in “The Book of Latina Women:150 Vidas of Passion, Strength and Success”, by acclaimed author Silvia Mendoza.
Yasmin is known for her inspirational speeches that make listeners really take a look at themselves and their lives. In her speeches Yasmin delivers a simple but profound message: “People will only treat you the way you allow yourself to be treated. If you want others to respect you, begin by respecting yourself first. That means standing up for yourself and not allowing anyone to mistreat you in any way.”
Since 1989, Yasmin has counseled tens of thousands of Latinos from junior high school to a more corporate level, acting as an advisor and mentor. Recently, Yasmin has been devoting her time to speaking tours both nationally and internationally. She has also been instrumental in providing Latino students with over one million dollars in scholarships and has served as a national spokesperson for various campaigns focused on empowerment in the Hispanic community including being the spokesperson for L’eggs Hispanic market campaign “Shape Your Future” and is currently the Empowerment Specialist for AOL Latinos.
Among all this Yasmin just embarked on a speaking engagement for a Mobilizing Voices college tour in the United States that is part of a domestic violence campaign that she created in partnership with Verizon Wireless. Over 70 student organizations have come together to help organize the Mobilizing Voices events and raise awareness. The campaign calls upon Latino youth to empower themselves and help break the cycle of domestic violence within their community. Mobilizing Voices will focus on facilitating a dialogue on dating violence and providing Latino youth with the tools necessary to improve and foster healthy relationships. “We will be discussing the issues of dating violence using an approach that students will relate to,” says Yasmin Davidds. “Our goal is to create a movement where our youth are motivated and feel empowered to help a friend or loved one.”
With a demanding schedule, this lady keeps herself busy, having to divide her time between her home in Los Angeles and Latin America. Being a single mother is hard but she always manages to devote time to her beautiful eight-year-old daughter, Divina.
