Giving the details of the control room, Dr. K K Aggarwal, Dean, Board of Medical Education said that dengue screening facilities will be available everyday from 8 am to 12 noon with free consultation. 24x7 platelet checking facilities will be available at the hospital and reports will be provided to the patients on the spot.
Dr. K K Aggarwal added, “Any fever in this season is dengue unless proved otherwise. No dispirin or brufen should be given as it can cause further lowering of platelet counts. Unless the platelet count is less than 10,000 one should not worry.”
Machine platelet count should not be taken seriously as the count by the machine is always lower than the actual count.
Do not panic, not all need admission. Indication for admission is remembered by the formula of 20:
1. a rise in pulse by 20
2. a fall in BP by 20
3. difference between upper and lower BP of <20
4. Platelet count < 20000 with bleeding
5. >20 bleeding spots on tourniquet test
