For the past couple of years, Latin America has been experiencing an increasing migration from traditional enterprise telephony to IP telephony. This is because high demand for business efficiency have made end users conscious of the benefits of IP telephony. With reductions in the prices of IP pure lines and IP phones, small and medium businesses (SMBs) have also begun to invest in converged solutions, expanding IP adoption throughout the region.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan (enterprise.frost.com), Latin America Enterprise Telephony Solutions Market, finds that the market earned revenues of $778.9 million in 2007 and estimates this to reach $1.3 billion in 2013.

If you are interested in a virtual brochure, which provides manufacturers, end users, and other industry participants with an overview of the Latin American enterprise telephony solutions market, then send an email to José María Jantus, Corporate Communications, at jose.jantus[.]frost.com, with your full name, company name, title, telephone number, company e-mail address, company website, city, state and country. Upon receipt of the above information, an overview will be sent to you by email.

Most countries are taking advantage of the rapid economic development in Latin America by investing in new technologies. IP telephony vendors, after having cemented their presence in North America and Europe, are now training their sights on Latin America.

“For reasons of price or legacy systems, there is still considerable demand for converged solutions and SMBs are the key potential market in most countries,” say Frost & Sullivan Research Analysts Raphael Barone and Juan Manuel González. “Even though large enterprises are already driving sales of IP pure, it will not be long before the SMBs account for a considerable share of the sales.”

Having gained the attention of end users, IP telephony vendors will have to direct their efforts at resolving the issue of security. They have to educate end users not only about the improved quality but also instruct them to use the technology safely.

“Another trend in the enterprise telephony market in Latin America concerns the new concept of unified communications,” notes Barone. “Even though this solution is taking its first steps in the region, early adopters are showing great interest in them.”

Vendors are not wasting any time in reacting to this trend. Many have launched unified communications solutions either for large or SMB segments. As the concept gains currency, end users will want more benefits from IP telephony.

“Overall, as IP telephony evolves in the region, vendors have to offer solutions that offer mobility, lower costs, and greater efficiency - factors that are becoming crucial for most companies,” observes González. “Companies are also seeking convergence of voice and data and IP vendors will have to strategize innovatively to deal with this demand.”
