Most countries are taking advantage of the rapid economic development in Latin America by investing in new technologies. IP telephony vendors, after having cemented their presence in North America and Europe, are now training their sights on Latin America.
“For reasons of price or legacy systems, there is still considerable demand for converged solutions and SMBs are the key potential market in most countries,” say Frost & Sullivan Research Analysts Raphael Barone and Juan Manuel González. “Even though large enterprises are already driving sales of IP pure, it will not be long before the SMBs account for a considerable share of the sales.”
Having gained the attention of end users, IP telephony vendors will have to direct their efforts at resolving the issue of security. They have to educate end users not only about the improved quality but also instruct them to use the technology safely.
“Another trend in the enterprise telephony market in Latin America concerns the new concept of unified communications,” notes Barone. “Even though this solution is taking its first steps in the region, early adopters are showing great interest in them.”
Vendors are not wasting any time in reacting to this trend. Many have launched unified communications solutions either for large or SMB segments. As the concept gains currency, end users will want more benefits from IP telephony.
“Overall, as IP telephony evolves in the region, vendors have to offer solutions that offer mobility, lower costs, and greater efficiency - factors that are becoming crucial for most companies,” observes González. “Companies are also seeking convergence of voice and data and IP vendors will have to strategize innovatively to deal with this demand.”
