The Law Offices of James Sokolove (LOJS), dedicated to providing equal access to the civil justice system, announced that it will honor Mesothelioma Awareness Day with a special donation. The Mesothelioma Donation Program is sponsored through the Mesothelioma Resource Center (MesoRC.com), the company’s ground-breaking online resource that uniquely seeks to give voices to mesothelioma victims and their loved ones. On this day only, the company will increase its donation from $200 to $500 on behalf of each new member that joins the MesoRC community. Mesothelioma is a fast-progressing and deadly cancer caused by exposure to asbestos.
“We wanted to honor this day that seeks greater awareness of this preventable disease is, as we await action by Congress to completely ban asbestos,” explains Mike Skoler, chief executive officer of LOJS. “MesoRC’s mission is to make the voices of victims count; and with the number of MesoRC members growing rapidly, it’s important to let community members exercise their choice in the treatment center will receive their donation.”
Donations can be made to a group of five specific mesothelioma treatment centers across the country, including Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, and the University of Chicago Cancer Center. When completing their registration form, the joining member is allowed to allocate their donation to the treatment facility of their choice.
“Meso Awareness Day is about turning the national spotlight on this terrible disease and highlighting the need for more aggressive studies,” says social worker Mellissa Hayon, LICSW. “The MesoRC Donation Program was developed in this same spirit, giving victims and their families a voice—and the chance to make a real difference in the fight against meso and other asbestos-related diseases.”
The MesoRC community is an online destination where members can log on to share stories, connect with other mesothelioma victims, and access the latest information on the disease. Those who would like to join MesoRC and have a donation made in their name can register at Mesorc.com.
