Industria today announced the Zignal Software Development Kit (SDK) intended to help customers and third-party developers create new applications for the Zignal IPTV user interface, integrate with external support systems or simply enhance the Zignal framework infrastructure.
The Zignal SDK consists of the following four main components:
1. Branding and Themes Toolkit, which allows service providers to change colour themes or rearrange the layout of their current user interface, based on the current functionality.
2. Application Development Kit, which allows new applications and Widgets to be created, or existing applications to be extended.
3. Platform SDK, which allows for changes in the server infrastructure.
4. Integration SDK, which provides descriptions of integration methods for all of the Zignal’s Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
Building business value
The Zignal SDK helps service providers to extend the services they offer in any way that mostly suits their specific needs and addresses their end-users’ requirements, by means of developing new applications in a fast manner. This naturally increases their value proposition towards their end-customers and applies especially to those who want to offer new, sticky and innovative services like for example, providing status updates information for friends, similar to those that social networks are offering. The Zignal SDK means literally the ability to tailor-make information to suit each user and, true to the promise of Zignal, greatly enhance the end-user experience.
Quickly and easily add new functionality
“This is a major step in enabling service providers to enhance their service portfolio. They can quickly add new applications like live match updates, airport departures and arrivals, news feeds or anything else that may be of particular interest to their end-users.” Says Stefan Baxter, Chief Technical Officer, Industria. He goes on to say: “It is time to take the next step in the evolution of TV services. People already are used to having all information at their fingertips using their computer. The same must apply to the TV screen in the living room. Zignal want’s to be on the forefront of leading that innovation.”
You can find Zignal running on Motorola set-top boxes at the Motorola stand (1.D31), at the IBC exhibition in Amsterdam.
