Major new buildings from across the world including the Suntory Museum of Art in Tokyo, The New York University Department of Philosophy, Sodic Sales Center in Cairo, the Beijing International Airport Terminal, the Manchester Civil Justice Centre and 28 Dorset Square, London are among a diverse range of buildings from 18 different countries on the shortlist for the prestigious Emirates Glass LEAF Awards, one of the highest accolades in the international architectural and design calendars.

The shortlisted projects includes entrants from some of the world’s leading architects such as WOHA, Kengo Kuma & Associates, Bernard Tschumi, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and Foster and Partners.

Now in their fifth year, the Emirates Glass LEAF awards have rapidly become one of the most prestigious global architectural prizes, recognising excellence in the international architectural, design and build fields. With architects from all over the world eligible to enter, former winners have included: ARB Bank, Saudi Arabia; America’s Cup Foredeck Building, Valencia, Spain; The Canadian War Museum, Ottawa, Canada; Qantas First Lounge, Sydney, Australia; Kensington Oval, Barbados; Young Vic Theatre, London; UK Watercube National Swimming Centre, Beijing, China; and The Green Building, Manchester, UK.

This year the 10 categories of the Awards attracted entries from 26 countries worldwide. Winners will be announced at a black-tie dinner at the Dorchester Hotel, London on 23 October 2008 and will be hosted by renowned interior designer and TV celebrity Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen. With more than 400 leading industry figures expected to attend, the Awards promise to be one of the social and networking highlights of the global architectural and design calendar.
