TU College of Law Professor to Publish Book on Iraqi Oil

NewswireToday - /newswire/ - Tulsa, OK, United States, 09/02/2008 - The developing legal environment surrounding the rich oil fields Iraq is the subject of a new book by The University of Tulsa College of Law professor Rex J. Zedalis.

Rex J. Zedalis, a professor of law at The University of Tulsa College of Law, examines the evolving law governing various aspects of the rich oil and natural gas resources of war-torn Iraq in his upcoming book to be published from Cambridge University Press.

“The Legal Dimensions of Oil and Gas Law in Iraq: Current Realities/Future Prospects” is the first attempt to examine the swiftly changing legal environment surrounding some of the world’s richest oilfields since Saddam Hussein was removed from power.

The book, scheduled for availability in late 2009, is the culmination of several years of research and scholarly writing on the numerous legal problems confronting the redevelopment of the Iraqi oil and gas industry.

Zedalis is co-director of the TU College of Law’s Comparative and International Law Center and a leading scholar who routinely explores the interface between international law and energy/commercial endeavors. He has been a member of the law school faculty since 1981. In 2004, he was recognized with TU’s top faculty honor, the Outstanding University Professor of the Year Award. He has won TU’s Outstanding Law Professor of the Year Award four times during his career.

Zedalis has law degrees from several universities, including a doctor of the science of law degree from Columbia University Law School, where he was the W.B. Cutting Fellow in International Law during academic year 1980-81.
