The Fox Re-Mix, Re-Design, Re-Construct Fashion Challenge wrapped just like a Project Runway episode - with a dramatic runway show, intense deliberation by the judges and one person declared the challenge winner.

Daniel Magaña, a second quarter fashion student at The Art Institute of California – Orange County, was declared the winner of this unique fashion challenge which required contestants to create at least two new Fox inspired looks by ripping, tearing, cutting and then sewing back together materials from Fox’s fall and holiday clothing line.

“This competition was a challenge for me because my personal style did not fit in with Fox’s action sports look,” said Magaña. “The Fox designer’s critique of my first attempts stumped me in the beginning but then I figured out how to incorporate my style with the Fox brand.”

Ten contestants from schools in the area displayed their looks for the first time at the Re-Mix, Re-Design, Re-Construct runway show in front of an audience of almost 300 friends, family, industry professionals and Fox customers. A panel of judges from Fox judged the contestants’ designs in the following four categories: innovation, aesthetics, process and how well the design reflected the Fox brand.

“What stood out about Dannie’s work and set him apart is that we could have taken a lot of his designs and put them right into the line,” said judge Tony Sanchez, Fox Director of Merchandising – Men’s. “He did a good job of taking what is Fox and making it wearable and right for our customer.”

In a surprise twist, the three top finalists were all offered an internship with the Fox Girl design team. Jocelyn Ramos, a student at Saddleback College, took second place and Katy Lasco, a recent graduate from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, was awarded third place.

The entire competition, including the fashion show, was captured on video and four Webisodes are available for viewing at fox-girl.com. Photos from the event and the competition blog can also be seen at the Fox Girl site.
