Fashion Design students at The Art Institute of California – Orange County have been thrown into a challenge worthy of a Project Runway episode. At stake is a $500 fall back-to school wardrobe and the chance to earn a paid internship with Fox Girls.

The Re-Mix, Re-Design and Re-Construct Fashion Challenge sponsored by Fox Head, Inc. requires students to create at least two complete head to toe looks by ripping, tearing, cutting and then sewing back together materials from Fox’s fall and holiday clothing line.

“We gave each student a box of Fox clothing that included everything from surf trunks and motocross jerseys and pants to beach towels, gloves and socks,” said Marketing and Communications Manager Mindy Foster. “They need to take the original pieces, tear them apart and re-construct them to create their brand new designs.”

The students will develop their designs over a four week period with a little help and guidance from the Fox design staff. Fox designers will work with the students in class to explain the Fox audience and the design inspiration behind the fall and holiday line.

On August 16, the students’ work will debut at the Re-Mix, Re-Design, Re-Construct Fashion Show hosted at Fox’s new Orange County Design Center in Irvine, CA. After the models walk the runway in their unique designs, a panel of judges will review and score the looks in the following four categories: innovation, aesthetics, process and benefits to the user.

Prior to the fashion show, Fashion Marketing & Management students will jump in on the competition by planning the casting call for runway models and competing to see who can develop the best marketing campaign to promote attendance at the Re-Mix, Re-Design and Re-Construct Fashion Show. One winner will be awarded $300 in Fox product and the chance to earn a paid internship with the Fox marketing communications department.

The entire competition will be captured on video and aired on foxhead.com along with a special recap covering the projects which will premiere during the fashion show.

“Working with Fox has helped bring the real world into the classroom,” said Mary Ann Gale, Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing & Management Academic Director. “This has been such a great learning experience for our students. I look forward to working with Fox on future projects.”
