PowerSURE Corporation today announced the signing of its first patent license agreement, ushering in a new approach to lighting homes and businesses during power failures. PowerSURE is promoting a standards-based solution to power failure lighting and is now commercializing the patented emergency lights that are integrated with light switches and receptacles and install in standard electrical wall boxes.
“We like to think we’re immune from power failures, but Mother Nature just won’t cooperate,” said Bob Barton, president of PowerSURE Corporation noting the many powerful storms hitting the US this year. In the first two months of 2008, nearly 5 Million customers lost power according to reports by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) of the U.S. Government. The EIA tracks major disturbances reported by utilities and transmission companies but does not track the millions of homes and businesses that are affected each year by local power outages due to storms, floods, accidents, etc. “Our patents enable manufacturers to produce power failure lights that are built into standard light switches, dimmers and receptacles. The resulting products have a standard size that fit in regular electrical wall boxes and look great when covered with standard wall plates. They can be installed in nearly every room of every home without requiring new wiring or impacting room design,” said Barton.
Barton is encouraging the adoption of modern, simple-to-use power failure lighting solutions in a standard form that can be installed wherever switches, receptacles and dimmers are installed today. “There is no reason to think that automatic power failure lighting won’t be standard in our homes in the future. As more manufacturers sign on, more design choices will be available and we will no longer have to rely on flashlights or dangerous candles to have light. The lights will automatically go on to help us stay safe and comfortable wherever we are when power failures strike,” said Barton.
