Using PowerSURE’s intellectual property, Intermatic will manufacture, distribute and sell LED-based power failure emergency lights that install in standard electrical wall boxes.
“The patents enable manufacturers to produce power failure lights that are built into light switches, dimmers and receptacles. The resulting products have a standard size that fit into standard electrical wall boxes and can be easily installed in nearly every room of every home without requiring new wiring or impacting room design,” said Bob Barton, president of PowerSURE Corporation.
According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA) of the U.S. Government, nearly 5 million customers lost power in the first two months of 2008. Since power failure lighting is not required in homes, many people are left in the dark when the power goes out. They use flashlights and hazardous candles to get around and have been reluctant to install more permanent solutions for a variety of reasons. Design, location and cost are big factors.
PowerSURE is encouraging the adoption of modern, simple-to-use power failure safety lighting solutions in a standard form that can be installed wherever switches, receptacles and dimmers are installed today. “We like to think we’re immune from power failures, but Mother Nature just won’t cooperate.” said Barton.
