Two Las Vegas attorneys, business partners and friends are enjoying multiple national acknowledgments of their legal talents this year. John R. Bailey and Dennis L. Kennedy, shareholders at Bailey Kennedy, Attorneys At Law, were recently named “Super Lawyers,” an honor bestowed upon less than five percent of attorneys nationwide. Both received the Mountain States Super Lawyers distinction in 2008 by the prestigious Super Lawyers publication. Also receiving “Rising Star” distinctions from the publication are Bailey Kennedy shareholder Joshua M. Dickey and associate Scott A. Eaton.
“An unprecedented four attorneys at our firm received the Super Lawyers distinction this year,” said Kennedy. “With 12 attorneys in the company, we are thrilled that so many were recognized as outstanding in our respective fields of law.”
Kennedy has been practicing law in Nevada for 32 years and is known as one of the state’s top litigators. He has represented many of the country's leading drug, food, health care, insurance, tobacco, hotel-casino, and other companies in both the enforcement and defense of their rights. He is an adjunct professor of law at UNLV’s Boyd School of Law, where he teaches Health Care Law and Nevada Civil Practice (civil procedure, evidence, and ethics). Kennedy is also the co-editor of the Nevada Civil Practice Manual -- the definitive authority on Nevada civil practice and procedure.
Kennedy received another of the legal profession’s highest individual honors in 2008 when he was given a “1” ranking in the Chambers USA 2008 listing of outstanding attorneys. Kennedy has been listed with a “1” ranking in the Chambers USA category of Litigation: General/ Commercial in Nevada since 2003.
John R. Bailey, founder of the firm, was also recognized as a Mountain States Super Lawyer in 2008. A step above Super Lawyers’ Nevada recognitions, both Bailey and Kennedy were evaluated among attorneys in Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana. Bailey and Kennedy were both recognized as Nevada Super Lawyers in 2007.
Bailey is one of the top health care attorneys in Nevada and specializes in corporate litigation, gaming, and health care law. He is serving his second term as chairman of the Nevada State Athletic Commission in 2008. He has served as vice chairman and a member of the Moral Character and Fitness Committee of the Nevada State Bar for 15 years and is a former General Counsel for the State Republican Party. He has been recommended to the President of the United States for a Judgeship on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit by Senators John Ensign and Harry Reid. He is the founding member and managing partner of the firm.
This is the first year Bailey Kennedy shareholder Joshua M. Dickey was named a Nevada Rising Star by Super Lawyers. His practice focuses on complex civil litigation, including disputes in such areas as commercial law, corporate law, business torts, and constitutional law. In addition, Dickey's practice has included a significant amount of federal appellate work. He is a member of the State Bar of Nevada’s disciplinary board and is on the editorial staff of the Nevada Civil Practice Manual.
Scott Eaton’s practice includes sports & entertainment law, privileged licensing, and transactional work. He is a contributing author to Nevada Gaming Law and was recently named one of southern Nevada’s “Top Businesspeople Under 40” by In Business Las Vegas.
